Sub-series consists of records created and maintained by the Grand Trunk Western Railway Company. The records, which include those of some of the company's predecessors, ledgers and personal ledgers 1861-1899, consists of minutes, 1878-1929, stock records, 1906 -1929, fiscal records, 1894-1929, profiles, 1904-1922, historical data, newspaper clippings and photos, and annual reports, 1892-1894.

Grand Trunk Western Railway Company (1900-1928) : In order to permit a reorganization of the Chicago and Grand Trunk Railway Company on 1 January 1900 it was allowed to default in payment of its First Mortgage Bonds. Foreclosure proceedings were instituted and on 2 November 1900 the Company was acquired at a foreclosure sale by Messrs. Hays and Meddaugh, acting for Grand Trunk interests. On 20 November 1900 they incorporated three companies under the laws of the states of Michigan (Port Huron and Indiana Railway Company), Indiana (Indiana and Illinois Railway Company) and Illinois (Chicago Lake County Railway Company). While legal entities these three companies only existed for two days and left no records. On 22 November 1900 the first two companies amalgamated to form the Grand Trunk Western Railway Company, obtaining at the same time the property of the third.

On 1 November 1928 the Grand Trunk Western Railway Company amalgamated with nine other companies to form the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company. RG30 General Inventory
