Peninsular Railway Company : The Peninsular Railway Company was incorporated under the laws of the state of Michigan on 3 October 1865 to build a railroad from Battle Creek to Lansing, Michigan. This 45 mile line was opened for traffic in December 1869. On 3 January 1868 the Peninsular Railway Extension Company was incorporated under the laws of Michigan to build a railroad from Battle Creek to Milton on the Michigan/Indiana border. The 64.44 miles of line was completed in 1872. On 17 February 1868 the Peninsular Railway Company amalgamated with the Peninsular Railway Extension Company to form the Peninsular Railway Company (Michigan).

On 15 March 1869 The Peninsular Railway Company (Illinois) was incorporated under the laws of the state of Illinois to construct a railroad from Chicago to the Illinois/Indiana border. No construction was undertaken, however.

On 14 October 1869 the Peninsular Railway Company (Indiana) was incorporated under the laws of the state of Indiana to construct a railway from the Michigan/Indiana border to the Illinois/Indiana border. 55.6 miles of line as far as Valparaiso, Indiana, were constructed and opened for traffic by October 1973.

Under an agreement of 30 April 1870 The Peninsular Railway Company (Michigan), the Peninsular Railway Company (Indiana) and the Peninsular Railway Company (Illinois) were consolidated under the name of the Peninsular Railway Company.

Under a consolidation agreement dated 15 August 1873 the Chicago And Lake Huron Railroad Company was formed by the amalgamation of the Port Huron and Lake Michigan Railroad Company and the Peninsular Railway Company.

In 1879 the components of the Chicago and Lake Huron were acquired by the Grand Trunk and on 13 March 1880 the line and property formerly owned by the Peninsular Railway Company was transferred to the Michigan Railway Company and the Indiana Railway Company. RG30 General Inventory
