Series consists of records created and maintained by the Plant Science Division at the Central Experimental Farm. The series contains a wide variety of records related to the history of plant science research and include papers, articles, speeches and reports. There are also files containing the correspondence of the Dominion Horticulturalist, W.T. Macoun (1911-1932) and of the Dominion Cerealist, C.E. Saunders (1911-1925). Some of this correspondence pertains to the development of Marquis wheat. Information on other Plant Science researchers such as Mary MacArthur, Isabella Preston and M.B. Davis is also found in these records. Two large scrapbooks of newspaper clippings relating to horticultural matters kept by W.T. Macoun from 1896 to 1926 may be of particular interest.

Canada. Plant Science Division : The Plant Science Division was located at the Central Experimental Farm, and formed part of the Science Service. Created in the late 1940s, the Plant Science Division was responsible for conducting research into hazards confronting farmers and foresters arising from plant diseases and insect pests. As part of a Departmental reorganization in 1959, the Experimental Farm Service and the Science Service were amalgamated and became known as the Research Branch (Annual Report, 1959). The series also contains hundreds of photographs which have been transferred to the Documentary Art and Photography Division. Mounted and unmounted black and white and sepia photographs, scrapbooks, and drawings, are principally an accumulation of documentation on print and vegetable research. Apple, pear, and potato research photographs and textual documentation is prevalent. For related textual records, researchers should consult the records of the Office of the Dominion Cerealist and the Horticulture Division.
