Fonds contains a "crash cover" and contents, the cover used to forward this mail, and an enclosure from the Post Office Department explaining that the contents were recovered from the wreck of the Trans-Canada Airlines plane which crashed at Moose Jaw, Sask. on 8 April 1954.

The original letter, to Ian Lindsay and his wife, was written by his father, on Canadian National Railway stationery, and dated 7 April 1954. It, and its cover, show considerable fire damage.

Lindsay, I.S., 1919- : Ian S. Lindsay was born in London, England on 27 February 1919. He travelled to Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of six with his English war-bride mother. His family moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1923.

Mr. Lindsay served in the RCAF and RAF from 1940 to 1945. He attended the University of Alberta as a war veteran, graduating with a BSc. (1949) and MSc. (1951), specializing in fundamental and applied entomology.

From 1953 to 1955, he was a scientist at the Defence Research Establishment Suffield, Ralston, Alberta. From 1956 to 1967, he served at headquarters at Shirley Bay, Nepean (Ontario). After a brief time overseas as the scientific liaison officer, Canadian Defence Liaison Staff, London England, he returned to DREO while also serving as a scientific advisor to the World Health Organization on River Blindness Control. In 1981, Mr. Lindsay moved to Sidney BC and continued as WHO field advisor until 1985.

From 1961 to 1967, he was the Secretary of the Entomological Society of Canada, and from 1982 a member of the Scientific Advisory Group, Biting Flies of Canada, National Research Council. He has published three monographs relating to entomology. Ian S. Lindsay was awarded the Deputy Minister's (DND) Commendation in 1995.

He is married to Doris, and has one son, Ian Clark Lindsay. Letter (Ian S. Lindsay to Paul J. Henry), R/O Ref. 8360-1
