The collection consists of a complete proof set of 100, gold plated, bronze, commemorative medals contained in two albums, with 8 separate duplicate medals, all struck by the former Wellings Mint Limited, Canada of Rexdale, Ont., (renamed the Franklin Mint Canada Ltd., also of Rexdale, Ont., in 1973) and entitled "Medallic History of Canada". The medals commemorate historic events and personalities pertaining to Canada, from the year 1000 to the year 1970; and were issued, by the Wellings Mint and subsequently, by the Franklin Mint, during the period 1970-1975, with a total of 964 sets being minted. The collection also includes a total of 89 descriptive brochures/folders (i.e. 6.5 cm of textual records), which accompanied the above described medals.

Hollander, Stephen, 1945- : Stephen Hollander was born in the United States, in 1945. Following university studies, he emigrated to Canada in 1969; becoming a Canadian citizen in 1974. Upon his arrival in Canada, he first worked in Winnipeg, at the University of Manitoba libraries from 1969 through 1971. After moving to Ottawa, he worked for the federal government from 1971 through 1983. A forensic accountant by profession, he has since 1983 worked in the private sector. Apart from his secular activities, he is an Oblate of the Camaldolese Hermitage of the Immaculate Heart (Big Sur, California) and has recently undertaken the study of Holy Orders, in the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada. Stephen Hollander holds a Bachelor's degree, from the University of the Pacific, Stockton, California (1968) and a Master's degree, from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana (1969). He has also received a certificate in palliative care from Algonquin College (Ottawa). He is a member of: the Certified General Accountants Association; the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners; and the National Association of Forensic Economics. He has one publication to his credit: "Managing Personal Injury Damages; a Lawyer's Guide", (Toronto, Carswell, 1990, with updates in 1992 and 1993). Because of his interest in his adopted country, Stephen Hollander acquired the complete series of medals, entitled "Medallic History of Canada", from The Wellings Mint, by way of subscription, at the time of their issue. His donation of these medals to the National Archives was, in his own words, his way of "giving back to the Country where he had lived, for over twenty-five years". Stephen Hollander is married to Dr. Lynne Walter of Vancouver, where he and his wife presently reside.
