This sub-series of Post 44, volumes 1 to 12, includes formal instructions on policy and procedure issued by the Postmasters-General (London) to colonial deputy postmasters-general, packet captains, surveyors, and other officials connected with overseas services, 1763-1867, (volumes 1,3,12); formal instructions on policy, procedure and postal rates issued by the Deputy Postmasters-General of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick to their postmasters, 1846 (volumes 10 and 11).

Included is correspondence between the Secretary To The Post Office (London), the Deputy Postmaster-General of British North America, and local post offices in the British North American colonies, 1812-1843 on various aspects of colonial postal operations and packet services (volumes 2, 4, 7 and 9). Also included are lists and tabular statements describing way stations, postal routes, and mail schedules in British North America, 1842-1843 (volumes 5 and 9); and reports by special investigator W.J. Page on the finances of the Nova Scotia post office and misuse of postmasters' franking privileges in the Maritime colonies, with related correspondence, 1842-1843 (volumes 6 and 8). This material is available on microfilm reels A-1356 to A-1358.
