Wallis of the 16th Battalion who shares memories of his experiences of World War I. Enlisting in early 1914, Wallis "couldn't wait" and was afraid war would soon be over. Of his early training, he recalls building the camp at Valcartier and the Minister of the Militia, Sir Sam Hughes.~Speaking of his first experience of trench warfare at the Second Battle of Ypres, he recalls encountering the fleeing citizens of Ypres while crossing the Yser Canal at "fixed bayonets." Dug in a Wilje, his battalion was eventually relieved. He also recalls encountering his brother who "fainted" believing he had been killed during the rout.~Among the many topics Major Wallis discusses are: the differences been enlisted men and officers; the many units in the battalion; the development of weaponry such as trench motars; and the employment of Canadians as "attack troops" in the last days of the war.~l allLangue :EnglishDétails de l'inventaire : -
