Fonds consists of the CCCY Board of Directors files, (vols. 1-2); records of CCCY Committees, (vols. 3-4); files of annual meetings and conferences, (vols. 4-5); correspondence, (vols. 5-7); general office files, (vols. 8-11); National Task Force on Children's Play records, (vols. 11-13); documentation relating to the Addiction Research Foundation and others, (vol. 14); CCCY publications, (vols. 14-15) and subject files, (vols. 15-17).

Fonds also includes a sound recording of a press conference held by the Canadian Council on Children and Youth regarding a report by a task force chaired by the CCCY.

Canadian Council on Children and Youth : The Canadian Council on Children and Youth (CCCY) is a national voluntary organization incorporated in 1958. Its four major objectives are to focus attention on the importance of children and youth in our society; to serve as an advocate for children to ensure that their needs and rights as human beings are more fully recognized, understood and met; to provide opportunities for communication and better understanding among persons and organizations engaged in work on behalf of children and youth; and also to maintain liaison with the federal and provincial governments concerning policies, programs and legislation that affect children and youth. The council's major program is carried out through periodic national and provincial conferences and seminars.

In 1973, the Council expanded its role to become a more active advocate for children and youth. In addition to its educational function, the Council engaged in a series of studies on "The Status of the Child in Canadian Society" with the goals of ensuring that children and youth are safeguarded from abuse of their rights and dignity as human beings and to secure access to the opportunities, services and protections to which they should be entitled as Canadians. Provincial Committees in each province provide the Council the most effective means of meeting it's objectives.

The CCCY is funded in part by government grants and also through financial support from the private sector which is important for maintaining a balance in dealing independently with its activities.
