Canadian Ethnocultural Council : The Canadian Ethnocultural Council (CEC) was founded in April, 1980, to promote a united ethnocultural voice in Canada. To do so, it seeks to foster communication between ethnocultural organizations. At the same time, it seeks to rally the different ethnocultural communities behind social and cultural goals of interest to them. Changes being striven for include recognition of the contribution to the growth of Canada of its ethnocultural communities and the creation of conditions which will permit a more balanced participation of Canada's racial and cultural minorities in the social, cultural, economic and political life of the country.

In pursuit of these objectives, the CEC has sponsored conferences to permit the different ethnocultural communities, to examine the great variety of social and economic problems facing cultural or racial minorities in Canada. It has presented briefs to government to alter hiring practices and make other changes which will alter social inequalities in Canada. Ultimately, its goal is to bring about changes which will permit all Canadians, no matter what their cultural or racial background, to be (and feel themselves to be) an integral part of the Canadian fabric.
