Fonds consists of photographic and textual material depicting events and individuals associated with the life and military career of Brigadier General Edmond Alfred Blais, particularly as District Officer Commanding Military District No. 5, and of Lieutenant June Margaret Blais, his daughter. Subjects include activities and personnel of different military units, such as the 163rd Battalion, C.E.F. in Bermuda, the the 22nd Battalion, C.E.F. in France and the Royal 22e Regiment in England. Also included are members of military hockey and baseball leagues; inspections and graduation ceremonies of training centres and military colleges in Canada; numerous fund-raising balls, exhibition openings, conferences, dinner parties, ceremonies, conventions and parades; and visits from military and political officials. There are also letters sent to Brigadier and Mme Edmond A. Blais from different invividials, mostly military; printed invitations, menus and programs, telegrams, letters, greeting cards and manuscript accounts.

Blais, Edmond Alfred, 1893-1975 : Edmond Alfred Blais (1893-1975), military officer, was commissioned lieutenant in 1916 and saw service in France with the 22nd Battalion, C.E.F., from May 1917 through August 1918. From 1921 to 1923 he served as a captain with Le Régiment de Maisonneuve. From 1927 to 1939 he was employed as a chartered accountant with the firm Patterson, Peale and Dennis in New York.

In December 1939 he was appointed major in the Royal 22e Regiment and proceeded overseas with the regiment. He was promoted to lieutenant-colonel in October 1940 and given command of No. 3 Wing, CASF Training School in the United Kingdom. Returned to Canada in March 1941 on medical grounds, he was subsequently employed at the Officers' Training Centre, Brockville, as Chief Instructor "French-Canadian". In December 1942 he was promoted to brigadier and appointed District Officer Commanding, Military District No. 5 with headquarters at Quebec City. In this role, he participated in the 1943 and 1944 Quebec Conferences. He was retired from the army in 1946.
