The National Archives began microfilming the records of the Colonial and Continental Society of London, U.K., in 1953. The Society's correspondence files had been destroyed during the Second World War, but most of its minutes had been saved and the earliest surviving books, 1839-1872, were microfilmed on reels A-23 to A-25. Two bound volumes of annual reports pertaining to the Newfoundland School Society were copied in 1953. These volumes were at the time on deposit with McGill University, and have since been placed in the Anglican Church of Canada's Diocese of Montreal Archives. By the end of 1954, the annual reports up to 1870 had been copied from the original held by the Society in London, U.K.; see reels A-322 to A-327). Further copying of the society's later minutes and reports was done in 1964 in London; see reels A-633 to A-651.
