49 photographs b&w.Langue du document :anglaisPortée et contenu :Fonds consists of Louis-Philippe Brodeur's interest in the rebellion of 1837-1838 and the formation of the Canadian Navy, as well as his public career and his personal life.
Fonds also consists of photographic material depicts the Hon. Louis-Philippe Brodeur by Topley Studio; voyage of C.G.S. Arctic to the Canadian Arctic; and group photographs of Inuit and Pond Inlet, Northwest Territories.Provenance :Nom(s) additionnel(s) :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Brodeur, Louis-Philippe, 1862-1924 : Louis-Philippe Brodeur, member of Parliament, lawyer, public official, was born at Beloeil, Que., and was educated at the College of St. Hyacinthe and at Laval University. In 1884, Brodeur was called to the bar and in 1899, created King's Council. Brodeur was a member of the House of Commons representing Rouville, Que., 1891-1911. He served as Deputy Speaker of the House, 1896-1901; Speaker, 1901-1904; and entered Laurier's cabinet as Minister of Inland Revenue.
From 1906 to 1911, Brodeur was Minister of Marine and Fisheries during which time he attended the 1907 Colonial Conference and the Imperial Conferences of 1909 and 1911. He also took part in the 1907 negotiations for the Franco-Canadian trade treaty, sponsored the 1910 Naval Bill, and headed the new Department of Naval Services.
Brodeur was a judge of the Supreme Court of Canada, 1911-1923, until he was appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec.Information additionnelle :Note générale :Received in 1979 from the estate of Rear-Admiral Victor G. Brodeur; and in 1982 from Rear-Admiral Nigel Brodeur of Nepean, Ont.
