Fonds consists of textual records, n.d., 1916-1977: personal and family papers; memoirs and pioneers, material concerning Polish immigrants; documents concerning the Polish community of Calgary; clippings and printed matter.

Fonds also contains photographic materials depicting people and events within the Polish community.

Fonds also contains twelve postcards, ca. 1953, representing different Polish costumes entitled: "L'Atlas des costumes populaires polonais," works by J. Karolak, M. Ortowska, Cz. Lewandowska.

Fonds also contains pins, medals and objects, 1958-1974: banner of the Fourth Convention of Polish Congress, Alberta Branch, Calgary (1958); banner of the Central Fair, Poznan (1974); membership medal of the Polish Society of Brotherly Aid, Coleman, Alberta, 1917 to 1972; lapel button of the Polish Society of Brotherly Aid, Coleman, Alberta; emblem of the Polish Air Force; two buttons from the Polish War Relief Fund; button from the United Polish Relief Fund; two buttons from the Polish National Relief and Defence Committee in Canada; lapel button from the Canadian Polish Congress; lapel button from the Canadian Union of Public Employees. The emblem of the Polish Air Force was presented to Mrs. W. Chuchla for her work in the Canadian Red Cross among Polish Air Force prisoners and Polish pilots, stationed in Fort McLeod, Alberta.

Chuchla, Wladyslaw F., 1904- : Wladyslaw F. Chuchla, miner, community leader, was born in Galicia and immigrated to Canada in 1926. After working as a farm labourer, he moved to Coleman, Alta., where he became a miner. He married Ann Pieronek in 1931 and became a leading member in the Polish Society of Brotherly Aid. In 1944, he moved to Calgary, where he became active with the Polish Alliance, and its successor, the Polish Canadian Association; and in the Polish Canadian Senior Citizens' Club. Chuchla has contributed regularly to the Polish press.

The medal, pins and objects are part of an accession (1975-045 MED) that also includes a Polish Combattants Gold Cross for 20 years active service (Medal inventory number #6555), that is part of the Wladyslaw Badzioch fonds, MG 55/30-No.97.
Received between 1975 and 1977 from Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Chuchla of Calgary, Alta.
