The fonds consists of seven notebooks containing the Reverend J. Nelson Gould's personal record of the baptisms, marriages, and funerals at which he officiated, 1916-1961. The notebooks also hold a list of the members received at Grace United Church, St. Thomas, 1926-1932; some statistical notes; and notes on the distances between churches; as well as four miscellaneous items: an account of the mortgage-burning ceremony at Parker Street United Church, Sarnia, 26 May 1946; two blank baptismal certificate forms; and a copy of the 1955 amendment to the Marriage Act.

Gould, John Nelson, Rev., 1879-1968 : The Reverend John Nelson Gould (1879-1968) was the son, born 17 November 1879, of James and Jane Gould, pioneer settlers of East Zorra Township, Oxford County, Ontario. He was received on trial for the ministry of the Methodist Church of Canada, in its Alberta Conference, in 1912. He received his education for the ministry at Victoria College, Toronto, 1913-1914. From 1915 he served in the London Conference of the Church and was ordained on 4 June 1916.

He served first in the Sparta-Dexter charge, 1916-1921, and then from 1921 to 1926 in the Port Stanley charge. After the union of 1925 that created the United Church of Canada, he served in the London Conference of that Church, first at Grace United Church, St. Thomas, 1926-1933; then at Parker Street United Church, Sarnia, 1933-1947; and finally in the Richmond-Corinth charge (which included the congregations of Aylmer West, Corinth, Fairview, North Bayham, Richmond Village and Summers Corners), 1947-1958. He died on 11 June 1968 and was buried in the family plot in Lakeview Cemetery, Sarnia. He married Luisa Anna MacPherson and had one son, James M. Gould of Sarnia.
