Daney, Jean Flatt, 1909-1980 : Dr. Jean Flatt Davey, air force officer physician, was born in 1909 at Hamilton, Ont., the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J.E. Davey, and graduated in medicine from the University of Toronto in 1936. She interned for two years at Toronto General Hospital and later was resident physician at Women's College Hospital, Toronto, before entering private practice.

In August of 1941 Dr. Jean Davey became the first woman member of the R.C.A.F. Medical Division when she joined the Canadian Women's Auxiliary Air Force as medical supervisor with the rank of flight officer. She rose to the rank of squadron officer and was chief medical officer of the R.C.A.F (Women's Division). She was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1943. Dr. Davey retired from the R.C.A.F. in May, 1945.

From 1950 to 1965, Dr. Davey served as Physician-in-Chief, Department of Medicine at the Women's College Hospital, Toronto. In 1958 the Department of Medicine at Women's College Hospital became a teaching department affiliated with the University of Toronto and Dr. Davey was appointed to the Faculty of Medicine. In 1968 she was promoted a full professor and in 1973 she was awarded the Order of Canada.
