Fonds consists of the following series of textual records: Pan American Games, scripts and press clippings, 1967, 10 cm; Commonwealth Games, 1966-1974; College notes and exams, 1949-1951; Figure skating scripts, 1974-1977; Golf scripts, entry lists, and press clippings, 1967-1979; Horse racing scripts and background material, 1952-1966; Correspondence, n.d., 1951-1976; National Hockey League and International Hockey, background material and radio scripts, 1961-1979; and Syndicated scripts for various sports, including baseball, boxing, and football, n.d., 1967-1976.

The fonds also contains photographs taken at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, St. Catharine's, Ont, [ca. 1961].

Sgambati, Fred, 1921-1979 : After 3 years service with the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War, Fred Sgambati attended the University of Toronto, and worked for a short time as a high school physical education teacher. He became a sportscaster in 1951, joining Foster Hewitt's radio station CKFH. In 1953 he left to work with Molson's Brewery in a promotional capacity.

He joined the CBC in 1957, and, except for a brief period as Director of League Services for the Canadian Football League in 1967, remained with the CBC until his death in 1979. It was in this final capacity that he produced most of the material in this collection. Some of it was for national local sports broadcasts on CBC station CBL in Toronto, while the bulk of it, such as his coverage of NHL Sunday night games, was for national syndication on the network.
