Fonds consists of personal papers and subject files; Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem-Knights of Malta, correspondence, newsletters, minutes clippings and correspondence; Maltese-Canadian Society of Toronto administrative papers, as well as research notes, press and other studies of the Maltese community and personal records; papers concerning the Ontario Advisory Council on Multiculturalism and Citizenship (OACMC) which includes a OACMC submission to the Ontario Government, and other reports. Textual records have been divided into four series as follows: Personal papers and subject files; Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem-Knights Malta; Maltese-Canadian Society of Toronto; and Ontario Advisory of Multiculturalism and Citizenship.

Cumbo, Richard S., 1948- : Richard Cumbo, community leader, was born in Sliema, Malta, and came to Toronto with his parents in 1951. In 1971, he was appointed director of North America's oldest and largest Maltese organization, the Maltese-Canadian Society of Toronto and, in 1973, he was elected general secretary. In 1974, he co-founded the Federation of Maltese Organizations (then known as the Malta Day Committee) with Alfred Goggi. He resigned from the Society in 1975, but returned in 1976 to serve as general secretary and interim president, 1976-1977. He has served as public relations officer since 1977.

Cumbo was instrumental in organizing the fiftieth anniversary celebrations in 1972 and the sixtieth in 1982. He has been both an archivist and historian of the Maltese community in Canada and has published extensively on the subject. He writes for papers in Malta and the Bloor West Villager in Toronto. Richard Cumbo was invested in the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta. In 1977, he was invested as Knight Commander. Cumbo was a member of the Toronto Historical Board, 1981-1983, and the Ontario Advisory Council on Multiculturalism and Citizenship.
