Fonds consists of files relating to Haddow's activities as the Grand Lodge Representative in Montreal for the International Association of Machinists, including representative's reports, 1939-1945; Lodge 712 minutes, 1944-1946; National War Labour Board briefs, 1942-1943; a membership book for the Montreal Aircraft Workers Local Union, 1946; and one file on Haddow's activities as Canadian District President of the International Fur and Leather Workers Union, n.d., 1939, 1955-1961.

Haddow, Robert H., 1902-1984 : Robert Haddow, trade unionist, was born in Glasgow, Scotland and worked as a tool maker in the Scottish shipbuilding industry before immigrating to Canada. During the 1930's, Haddow helped the International Association of Machinists establish itself in Montreal's aircraft factories. In 1939, he was appointed the Grand Lodge Representative for Montreal and district, which included Lodge 712 of the large aircraft plants of Canadian Vickers, Fairchild and Noorduyn. A former member of the Independent Labour Party in Britain, Haddow supported the Communist Party of Canada. In charge of their trade union groups in the Montreal area, Haddow helped Fred Rose coordinate the Verdun unemployment relief strike in 1940, and assisted Rose's federal election campaign in Montreal-Cartier in 1943.

In December 1945, Haddow and three other IAM officers were dismissed on charges of attempting to persuade Lodge 712 members to join the militant United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America. This action by the IAM General Vice-President D.S. Lyons caused some IAM members to leave and form the short-lived Montreal Aircraft Workers Local Union.

In June 1946, Haddow joined the International Fur and Leather Workers Union as their Canadian representative. When the IFLWU formed a Canadian District (No. 10) in the fall of 1948, Haddow became its first president and later served as district secretary and director. In 1955, the IFLWU merged with the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America, and Robert Haddow resigned as President of the ILFWU in Canada.
