During its early years the organization was active primarily in providing information to new immigrants on conditions in Canada counselling them on problems they may experience, and helping them find employment.
The German Balts settled primarily in Montreal, Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo, where clubs were organized. The local organizations provide German language courses for their young members, encourage the preservation of customs of German Balts and meet social and recreational needs of their members. Since the cessation of this immigration in the early 1960's, the C.B.I.A.S. has served primarily to co-ordinate the activities of local German Baltic organizations with the aim to nurture and maintain their history, traditions and cultural ties.
