Fonds consists of "A Journey to Canada" which details a journey from Albany to Montreal, 1779, 16 pages; a commission appointing Richard Cartwright as first Justice of the Court of Common Pleas of the District of Mecklenburg, 1788, 2 pages; and a grant of 3000 acres in Prince Edward County to Richard Cartwright, 1794, 2 pages.

Cartwright, Richard, 1759-1815 : Richard Cartwright was born at Albany, New York. During the American Revolutionary War he was Secretary to Colonel Butler of the Queen's Rangers and about 1780, he settled at Niagara, Upper Canada. He later moved to Kingston. In 1788, he was appointed Judge of the Court of Common Pleas for the Mecklenburgh, later Midland, District; in 1792, he became a member of the Legislative Council of Upper Canada. During the War of 1812, he was Commandant of the Midland District.
