Fonds consists of by-laws, minutes and briefs of various co-operative societies in Great Britain, the United States and Canada; correspondence of the Co-operative Union of Canada; account books and statements, including receipt boxes, monthly bulletins and financial statements; and printed materials, which contain various periodicals (The Canadian Co-operative Official and the Co-operative Commentary) pamphlets, circulars, and speeches, etc. The fonds also contains photographs showing activities and people associated with the Co-operative Union.

Cooperative Union of Canada : The Co-operative Union of Canada was organized in Hamilton in March 1909. Its aim was to bring together the individual co-operative societies throughout Canada, to promote and propagate the Rochdale principles, and to advise the affiliated societies on a variety of organizational, administrative and educational problems. On reorganization in 1945, the head office was transferred from Brantford to Ottawa. The first President of the Union was Samuel Carter, who held office until 1921. He was succeeded by W.C. Good, who held office until 1945. George Keen was General Secretary Treasurer from the inception of the Union, until 1945.
