Fonds consists of an album of 34 folios created by Henry Thomas Davies or a family member. Not all folios have images mounted on them, folio1 and folios 31 to 34 are similarly blank. The album contains 25 watercolours and drawings depicting sites and events in Europe, England, and North America, including 8 done in England; 3 watercolours of European or Mediterranean views; a watercolour of the naval battle between HMS Albacore (18 guns), commanded by Davies, and the French 40-gun frigate La Gloire on 18 December 1812; 1 watercolour of Quebec, possibly done in the spring of 1814, when Davies was posted to the Great Lakes; a watercolour of HMS Prince Regent (56 guns) on Lake Ontario, probably done in the summer of 1814; 2 watercolours, one of Queenston, and one of Niagara Falls, probably done in 1814-1815; and 9 watercolours of views in the Hudson river valley, possibly done after the War of 1812. The album also includes 24 albumen photographs of Windsor, Kenilworth, Warwick Castle, and other buildings of architectural merit in England, ca. 1860-1870; and 11 photomechanical prints on card of English scenery, ca. 1880-1890.

Davies was born ca. 1778, entered the Royal Navy on 3 March 1794, was appointed lieutenant on 24 December 1800, commander on 28 July 1807, and attained his captaincy on 19 Feburary 1814. He served on the following Royal Navy vessels during the first fifteen years of his career: HMS Tryon (28 guns), HMS Glory (98 guns), HMS Barfleur, HMS Monarch, HMS Queen Charlotte, HMS Diomede (50 guns), HMS L'Oiseau (36 guns), HMS Hector, HMS Foudroyant, HMS Zealous, HMS Matilda, HMS Blanche, HMS Tyrian, and HMS Albacore. After being posted to North America he commanded HMS Niagara (20 guns) on Lake Ontario, and finally HMS Prince Regent (56 guns). He retired from the Royal Navy on 1 October 1846, although promoted to Rear-Admiral on 12 March 1848. He died at Bath on 21 February 1869, having been predeceased by his only son, the Rev. H. C. Davies of Sydney College, Cambridge, who died 5 August 1836.

The album is in good physical condition in terms of binding, but all of the folios are badly foxed and some of the works glued down are similarly badly-foxed.
