The attribution to A. Jackson is made on the basis of another drawing (1997-280-3) which originates from the same expedition and is signed by him. The initial E.S. likely stands for Edward Sabine (1788-1883), the scientist attached to the expedition led by Captain William Edward Parry, from 1819-1821. Sabine made his botanical collection available to John Edward Gray who was preparing the Botanical Appendix to the 1824 publication A Supplement to the appendix of Captain Parry's voyage for the Discovery of a North-West Passage. Jackson may have been the artist employed by Gray or Sabine to produce the illustrations for the publication.
