Fonds consists of commissions as Speaker of the Senate and Minister of the Interior; correspondence regarding the awarding of a K.C.M.G.; certificates of identity; a succession duty declaration; a letter conferring a power of attorney; an address from the residents of Glengarry County, 1878, concerning a verbal attack on Highlanders by the Hon. R. J. Cartwright, ca. 1873; a small notebook containing miscellaneous addresses and other notes, ca. 1863-1875; a book containing letters, from Sir John A. Macdonald, Sir A. T. Galt and others, 1884-1885; book and newspaper clippings, 1896. The address from the residents of Glengarry County, 1878, is in horizontal storage, container 2.

Macpherson, D. L. (David Lewis), 1818-1896 : David L. Macpherson, born in Scotland, came to Canada in 1835. He became a railway contractor and director of numerous companies, chiefly railways and banks. He was the author of several pamphlets on finance. He was a member of the Legislative Council of Canada, 1864-1867, and of the Senate, 1867-1896, serving as minister without portfolio, 1880-1883, minister of the Interior, 1883-1885. He was also speaker of the Senate, 1880. See: Johnson, Directory of Parliament, p. 436-437.
