Fonds consists of correspondence and papers dealing with the Flag of Truce incident, charges by William Lyon Mackenzie concerning 1837 events, and letters concerning the Reform Party, 1847-1852, 274 pages. Also included are correspondence with various patriots and reformers and a few letters relating to the medical profession (one of which is a photocopy, 2 pages, 1824), 327 pages inclusive, and a medical notebook, n.d., 353 pages.

Rolph, John, 1793-1870 : John Rolph began his career as a lawyer but abandoned the practice of law in 1828, and obtained a medical licence in 1843. He founded the Toronto School of Medicine (later the Medical School of Victoria University). He represented Middlesex from 1824 to 1830, and Norfolk from 1836 to 1837, in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada.

From 1837 to 1843, he was forced to reside outside Canada, having been implicated in the Rebellion. In 1851, he was returned to the Legislative Assembly again, where he became Commissioner of Crown Lands in the Hincks-Moring Administration and President of the Council in 1853. In 1857, he retired from Parliament and from political life.
