Barry Callaghan hosts the 1968 wrap-up for the "Public Eye" with a National Film Board production chosen by the British Broadcasting Corporation for its first Eurovision broadcast of the new year. "Imperial Sunset: an enquiry into the nature of the Commonwealth" includes archival footage of British troops in colonial nations during the imperialist expansion of the 19th century and photos of Queen Victoria and Cecil Rhodes, the "ultimate imperialist". Additional footage includes Lady Tweedsmuir; conservative member of parliament Enoch Powell; Sir Kenneth Bradley of the Commonwealth Institute; Eric Williams, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago; Rhodesians David Lardner-Burke and Dr. Charles Moyo; Tom Lawler of the Anglo-Rhodesian Society; Kenneth Kaunda, President of Zambia; and Arnold Smith, Commonwealth Secretary-General, expressing widely varying opinions on the Commonwealth and the colonial system. The film is followed by a collage of images of 1968 events.
