Dr. Norman Bethune, famed Canadian physician who practised in China, on platform of CNR station with CNR conductor. Bethune ducks back to, unsuccessfully, avoid camera. City Hall steps, crowds mingling around with the Ontario Provincial Police beside motorcycles, view of street with knots of people, some police and military awaiting parade. Crowd marching from McKellar and Mitchell building, coming towards camera, rear view as they walk amongst automobiles in slow moving procession. Good shots of civilian band preceding workers who carry banners such as "Chesterfield ... Industrial Union". Workers pulling cart in which phoney cannon is located with signs "Big Berth - Our Mayor and His Militia". Factory workers parading with banner which reads "1914 Promises - 1933 Starving in Rags". More shots of parade with people marching, riding in open trucks and then re-assembling in front of McKellar and Mitchell plant. Wives of workers parading to furniture factory with banners, OPP forming a solid barrier five deep in front of McKellar-Mitchell plant. Man and his wife in their 60s on the street looking confused. Swan preening feathers along bank of the Avon River, and park where militia is assembled to quell what could be trouble. Soldiers buttoning and adjusting uniforms as they pass camera. Group of soldiers gathered around stacked rifles, reminiscent of "behind the lines" scenes usually associated with WWI. Having assembled, the soldiers march through streets of Stratford with band and rifles shouldered at the ready in show of strength. Shot of relatively quiet side street with little traffic, of two OPP at corner with Courthouse in background chatting with town official. Close up of militia parading out of County Courthouse and up street to McKellar-Mitchell assembly area. <5mn>
