Fonds consists of correspondence, including photocopies of 80 letters by Rudyard Kipling, diaries, manuscripts, reprints, clippings, memorabilia and other papers.

Fonds also contains of photographs of portraits of Sir Andrew MacPhail, a photograph of a painting and photographs of a painted portrait and a drawn portrait of Sir Andrew MacPhail.

Also included are sketches and a menu for the Annual Festival of the Pen and Pencil Club, by William Henry Clapp (1879-1954).

Macphail, Andrew, Sir, 1864-1938 : John Andrew Macphail, author, pathologist and professor, was born in Prince Edward Island, and attended McGill University receiving his M.D. in 1891. He practiced and taught medicine. In 1907, he was appointed McGill's first professor of the history of medicine.

Macphail published more than ten books and many essays. Among his shorter pieces were: Essays in puritanism (1905), Essays in politics (1909) and Essays in fallacys (1910). Among the subjects about which he wrote were: literary and religious figures, contemporary political issues, feminism, modern education and theological trends.
