Fonds consists of reminiscences of Harry Hinchley entitled "Renfrew's Hydro" from early in the nineteenth century to 1970; special edition of the Mercury-Advance dated 1 December 1971 when the two Renfrew weekly newspapers were amalgamated (most of the text was written by Hinchley); scrap-book and clippings on the Black Donald Graphite Co. Ltd., Calabogie, Ontario; a small scrap-book containing exerpts from The Fourth Voyage of Sieur De Champlain made in the year 1613, clippings from the Golden Sun of 3 July 1952 concerning the unveiling of the Champlain monument and discovery of Champlain's astrolobe, and a copy of a report on the Water Conservation Survey of the Muskrat River Basin October 1965; two issues of the Renfrew Mercury Advance containing Mr. Hinchley's articles on Frank Dench and the Renfrew Rotary Club; a file containing miscellaneous clippings concerning Ambrose O'Brien and early hockey history; poster "Premiums to be offered for competition by the County of Renfrew Agricultural Society", 1863 (horizontal storage, container 2); Mr. Hinchley's Receipt for Registration and his Certificate of Protection, both issued under the Military Service Act of 1917; essays entitled "Frank Dench Story" (1973), "A Century of Service, the Story of the Mercury; A History of the Renfrew Mercury Newspaper from the 1870's" and "Story of Creamery at Sharbot Lake" (1982).

Also included, "The Renfrew Curling Club" (1974) which relates the history of curling in Renfrew from the founding of the curling club in 1874; notes and correspondence concerning John McMillan M.P. South Huron, 1884-1900; otes on the history of Bonnington House, Renfrew; and the history of axe makers Elkanah Mayhew and Samuel Francis by P. and C. Beischlaag, 1983.

Fonds also consists of photographs of local Renfrew businesses, street scenes, buildings, and celebrations; scenes from the Ottawa Valley; scenes relating to the railway; power development projects and dams; churches; schools; numerous portraits;scenes relating to the military. The remainder of the photos feature buildings, businesses and celebrations in various towns.

Fonds also consists of postcards of the post office, the O'Brien Theatre and the water power plant in Renfrew.

Hinchley, Harry : Harry Hinchley lived in Renfrew, Ontario where he was active in the community. He wrote over 100 articles for local papers, often on topics of local historical interest. Hinchley was also President of Heritage Renfrew and served on its board.
