1 audio reel (1 h, 41 min).Langue du document :anglaisPortée et contenu :Fonds consists of a log book and diary kept by Frank T. Davies during the Canadian Polar Bear Expedition, Chesterfield, N.W.T., August 1932-September 1933, 7 cm.
In addition, fonds includes photographs of the Arctic and Antarctic, including meteorological stations, 1930-1939. Other photographs include views of the Canadian Polar Expedition, 1932-1933.
Fonds also contains a sound recording of an interview of Davies by Dr. Henry M. Datar and Dr. Herman Eriis, in Washington, about the first Byrd expedition to the Antarctic 1928-1930 and about the launching of Canadian satellites Alouette 1 and 2, 1972.Provenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Davies, Frank T., 1904-1981 : Frank T. Davies, geophysicist, was born and educated in Wales, and immigrated to Canada in 1925 to work as a grain harvester in Saskatchewan. The University of Saskatchewan hired him as a lecturer in physics, the same year. He was a physicist on the first Byrd Antarctic Expedition, 1928-1930, and leader of the Second Canadian Polar Bear Expedition, Chesterfield, N.W.T., August 1932 - September 1933. He also worked for the Carnegie Institute in Peru and served with the Royal Canadian Navy in W.W. II. He retired as Director-General, Telecommunications of the Defence Research Board in 1968, where he fostered Arctic Research and engineered the Allouette satellite. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow and Governor of the Arctic Institute of North America.Information additionnelle :Note générale :Copied in 1973 from originals held by Frank T.
