7 mapsLangue du document :anglaisPortée et contenu :Fonds consists of correspondence relating to Dunn's personal and business career, 1905-1955; correspondence and related material dealing with a variety of topics of interest to Algoma Steel Corporation including administration, relations with governments, and arrangements with suppliers and buyers, 1931-1955; and, miscellaneous business records detailing the extent of Dunn's interests, 1905-1954.
Fonds consists of a railway map of Canada, road maps of northern Ontario and Canada and maps of Lake Huron.Provenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Dunn, James, Sir, 1875-1956 : James Dunn was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick where he studied law. After a brief legal career he became involved in investment banking, joining the Montreal Stock Exchange in 1902 and founding the banking firm, Dunn, Fischer and Company, in London, England in 1907. One of his financial triumphs was the merger leading to the creation of Brazilian Traction, Light and Power Company (Brascan). In 1935 Dunn took over the bankrupt Algoma Steel Corporation of Sault Ste. Marie, and with the help of his friend C.D. Howe turned it into a profitable operation. He was knighted in 1921 for wartime services.
