Collection consists of genealogical, historical and biographical notes concerning the MacGillivray family, 1746-1981. Included is a history of the family property known as Dalcrombie from 1818 and as Avondbloem since 1965.

MacGillivray (family) : John MacGillivray (ca.1770-1855), second son of Farquhar of Dalcrombie, emigrated to Canada from Scotland c.1796 and joined the North West Company. He became a partner in 1801 and was in charge of the Company in the Athabaska District from 1806 to 1810. He left the Company in 1818 and settled in Glengarry County, Ontario, where he became Commissioner of Crown Lands. From 1839 to 1841, he was a member of the Legislative Council of Upper Canada. He was also a Justice of the Peace for the Township of Charlottenburg.

While with the North West Company, he took an Indian wife and had three sons and one daughter. In 1819, he married Isabella McLean (d. 1876); the issue of this marriage was four daughters and four sons.
