Shows one hundred and seventy-nine contestants ready to start race at starting line. Gun is fired and swimmers dive in and race commences. Pan to leading swimmer. Medium shot of Gani Gambi of Italy taking the lead with another swimmer tailing him. Young shown overtaking Sponder. Ernest Vierkoetler, the 1927 champion, is among the leaders, swimming strongly. Medium shot of a swimmer dropping out and being helped into a boat. Pan to other swimmers still in the race. Crowds can be seen along the shore, cheering the swimmers on. Among the competitors are Warren Anderson of Nova Scotia who comes in third, and Bill Goll of New York.
