Interview of Réal Gagnon, former vice-president of construction of the Dominion Bridge Company. Gagnon, who began with the company in 1936 as a junior engineer, outlines his caareer with the company including his posting to the Erection Department, his promotion to General Manager of Eastern Canadian Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dominion Bridge in Quebec City, and his transfer back to Lachine as General Manager of Construction. Also recalled is Gagnon's work designing and overseeing the many projects such as the arch bridge at Kenora, Ontario, the Pius IX Bridge in Montreal and bridges at St. Eustache, Ste Rose, St Césaire, Trois Rivières as well as tank and platework and the refineries at Sarnia, Ontario. Other noteworthy topics discussed by Gagnon are his admiration for the company construction workers who worked long hours under difficult and dangerous conditions and the company's neglect to hire French-speaking senior executives in the company, especially at the Lachine headquarters. Throughout the interview, Gagnon comments on many of his colleagues he worked with during his 39 years with the company.
