Second of a four-part film series on the changes taking place in the Canadian Arctic. In this program, Doug Wilkinson, explorer and pilot who has made the Arctic his adopted home, examines the problem of transportation in the Canadian north - overland, by air, and by water. The program focuses on the inadequate flight conditions in the north and shows the many forms of vertical flight aircrafts being developed in different countries in an attempt to overcome them. Includes interviews with scientists at the National Research Council; a chief develpment engineer at Canadair in Montreal; a maintenance foreman on the Distant Early Warning Line and a head employee at the Frobisher Bay Dew Line; and men stationed at various airfields in the north. Also shown are shots of the Ryan vertijet; the Hindenberg airship explosion; and a U.S. Navy blimp. <30mn>
