Champion of Victoria, British Columbia on his experience as a labour-teacher for Frontier College in 1938 and 1939. Champion recalls his work as a "bull cook" (chopping wood, hauling water, serving tables) at the Pulpwood Supply Company, a logging camp near Longlac, Ontario. The primitive living conditions without electricity or running water and the long working day from "dawn to dusk" for $40 per month are described by Champion. Discussion follows of his instructional classes after working hours when he taught English, arithmetic and Canadian geography to about a dozen mainly Finnish and Swedish immigrant labourers.
