Holland, Harry, 1941- : British artist Harry Holland was born in 1941 in Glasgow. He trained at St. Martin's School of Art in London and has been living and working in Cardiff since 1973. His work is represented in many major public and private collection worldwide, including the Tate Gallery, London; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the National Museum of Wales.
Holland's paintings deal with human figures and objects and imply situations, events or relationships that are not directly expressed.

MacLean, Catherine, 1950-2001 : Catherine MacLean was born on 1st June 1950. She is the young woman killed in 2001 by a Russian diplomat, Andrei Knyazev, who was driving under the influence of alcohol. Knyazev was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2002 and is serving four years in a penal colony.
Catherine MacLean started her career in 1977 when she was hired as junior lawyer to assist the firm founder, John Nelligan (Nelligan O'Brien Payne Law Offices). She became one of Canada's leading labour lawyers, specializing in federal public service law. She made numerous appearences for unions and employees in precedent-setting cases before the Supreme Court of Canada, the superior courts and various administrative tribunals.

She taught the art of advocacy to union representatives at the University of Ottawa.

She was a member of the Board of Directors for NAV Canada, the Advocates' Society of Ontario, the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers and the Canadian Bar Association.

In 1999, she was appointed to the Advisory Committee on Labour/Management Relations in the Federal Public Service.

The portrait is posthumous, based on photographs and clothing which John Fryer, partner of Catherine MacLean, took to the artist. Two colour photographs by Myrray Mosher Photography, one other colour photograph by an unknown photographer and one b&w photograph by Sherwood are available in volume 2.
