The fonds consists of textual records of John H. Stratton relating to philatelic activities as philatelic associations, postal history, researches and presentations (addresses). The fonds includes photocopies of articles (originally created back to 1949), notes and research papers on the Admiral issue, Large Queen issue, Postal History Society of Ontario, Stratford Stamp Club and articles and addresses by Max Rosenthal. It contrains a draft of an address given to the Kitchener-Waterloo Philatelic Society in 1983.

Stratton, John H 1922-1993 : John H. Stratton was born in Toronto (Ontario) in June 1922. He studied in Toronto at Osgoode Hall where he won a gold medal, and from where he graduated in 1943. Passing up scholarships to both Harvard and Yale, he then enlisted in the Canadian Army and went overseas for the duration of the Second World War. Back in Canada, he moved in the 1950's to Stratford (Ontario) where he practiced law. He died on November 21, 1993. He was married to Rheta and had four children.

John Stratton was interested in collecting stamps, particularly the Small Queen and Admiral issues.He joined the Stratford Stamp Club, which he served in many capacities, including president, secretary and director. He was also member of the Grand River Valley Philatelic Association and the Kitchener-Waterloo Philatelic Society.

He was the reporter of the Stratford Stamp Club for Grand News, the official journal of the Grand River Valley Philatelic Association. As Ken Wilmot reports, John Stratton was also known under such pseudonym as R.E. Porter, Your Humble Editor, Y.H.E and El Magnifico.

Finally he was also active in the Boy Scouts, the United Church, the Progressive Conservative Party and the Canadian Cancer Society.
