A document found in the series indicates that Axworthy was in the PMO in November 1975. Prior to his employment in the PMO, Axworthy had worked in the office of the Minister of State for Urban Affairs.
Although the material relating to the Office of the Principal Secretary is not included in this sub-series, the following list of tasks assigned to Tom Axworthy (1983-1984) are listed below because they reflect what was happening in the PMO during that time period, and relate to the tasks that were assigned to other staff members such as Denise Chong, David Crenna and Michael Langill.
PMO TASKS 1983-1984 (TOM AXWORTHY):
-To develop and maintain an accurate political road map for the period 1983-84, including a continuously updated picture of the electorate of 1984 and the state of public opinion.
-To support the Government's efforts to choose and elaborate on new themes for the period up to and beyond 1984.
-To support the Government's efforts to develop and implement additional foreign and defence policy initiatives on a strategic basis between 1982 and 1984.
-To support the development and implementation of a plan for improving the Government's relations with the intellectual community.
-To support the Government's mobilization of Cabinet as a key political resource for the 1984 election with particular emphasis on regular Political Cabinet sessions and full day sessions.

Press Clippings
Canadian Press (CP) Wires: These files contain documents that have been generally labelled Press Clippings - Canadian Pacific Wires. All of the files are listed as general but the following subjects can be found in these files:
-1972 and 1974 Election Campaign issues and appearances;
-Inflation of oil and food prices;
-Prime Minster Pierre Elliott Trudeau's trip to China including, agendas, highlights of the trip, and discussion issues.
Political Cartoons: These files contain miscellaneous political cartoons selected from various Canadian newspapers. All of the cartoons relate to Prime Minister Trudeau and his government, policies, issues and activities. The files are organized chronologically.
This Staff sub-series reflects Tom Axworthy's position as Policy Advisor in the PMO during the 1970's. Tom Axworthy's papers complement the papers of other staff members who later held similar policy advisory positions, namely, Denise Chong (1982-1984), and David Crenna (1982-1984), and Michael Langill, Special Assistant (1981-1984). To an extent, this sub-series reflects the political agenda within the PMO, 1976-1980.
