File consists of an interview with Satish Kumar titled "Spirituality and ecology." The interview was conducted by Silver Donald Cameron as part of The Green Interview. File includes video of the interview, printed transcript, sound recording, and closed captioning file.

From the interview with Satish Kumar: "At that time in the '70s, we thought that there is a limitless supply of natural resources, and we own nature. Nature is ours, there to be grabbed. So human species are the rulers of the world, the natural world. And there is an abundant supply, limitless supply, and the only shortage, if there is any shortage, is human labour. And therefore we have to save labour and so to create efficient achines so that people don't have to work, and we can use natural resources as we like. And we can do to nature what we like. So we can cut down the rainforest; we can pollute the rivers; we can over-fish the oceans; we can use chemicals and fertilizers and pesticides and herbicides - I call them "chemicals of suicide." We can use them as we like.

"So there was a kind of collective human ego, where we thought that we rule the world, humanity is the only thing which matters, and we can do what we like to nature. That was the agenda at that time. And unfortunately to some extent, at the level of consciousness, we have a kind of split personality. On the one hand, people are more and more realizing that resources are scarce. But at the same time, they are not yet developing a kind of relationship with the natural world, which it requires if we want to have a sustainable and durable and resilient future for humanity. So still there's a lot of work to do. Nevertheless, now newspapers, radio, television, politicians, business leaders, everybody is aware of the environmental crisis that we face. Particularly symbolized by global warming and climate change."

From The Green Interview website: Satish Kumar, a leader of the UK's spirituality and ecology movements for more than three decades, and editor of Resurgence magazine.

Born to a devout Jain family in Rajastan, India, in 1935, Satish Kumar became a Jain monk at the age of nine. At 18, influenced by the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi about land reform and non-violent action, he became a disciple of Vinoba Bhave, who was in turn a celebrated disciple of Gandhi. At 27, inspired by Bertrand Russell's campaign of civil disobedience against nuclear weapons, he set out with a companion to walk to the capitals of the four then-existing nuclear powers - France, Britain, the Soviet Union and the United States - in a "pilgrimage for peace."
