This sub-series contains records pertaining to all the invitations received by the Minister of Justice's Office while Allan Rock was Minister and Attorney General of Canada between 1993 and 1997. This set of records was named the "Invitation Log" by the Minister's Correspondence Unit during that period. The records in that sub-series are predominantly composed of invitations sent to the Minister via correspondence from Canadian politicians, foreign dignitaries, constituents, scholars, judges and lawyers, etc. Moreover, some invitations are sometimes sent with complementary records about the events. In cases where Minister Allan Rock agreed to participate to an event, additional documents created by the Minister's Office in preparation for the event can be found with the invitation.

The invitation system was created by the Minister's staff with a database where all the invitations were noted, as well as the answer given by the Minister's office to each invitation. Each invitation received by the Minister's Office has been given a number from 1 to 7138 for the period when Allan Rock was Minister of Justice. The invitations were organized in chronological order by the Minister's staff, and that arrangement has been preserved by the archivist. From that database, an inventory of all the invitations has been created by the Minister's staff. This inventory can be consulted by researchers in the first volume of this sub-series. This inventory is the key to consult all the invitations received by Allan Rock while he was Minister of Justice from November 1993 to June 1997.

Records consist of, but are not limited to, correspondence, speeches, reference documents, briefing notes, memoranda, handwritten notes, phone calls's notes, greeting cards, invitation cards, schedules, trip itineraries and tracking sheets created by the Minister's correspondence unit to write comments and notes about the invitations.

The invitations to the Minister of Justice were organized with a numerical classification system by the Minister's correspondence Unit. Each invitation received a number from 1 to 7138. By following that arrangement, the Minister's staff created folders regrouping a hundred invitations per folder that follows that an ascending order. The archivist respected the original order of those folders and kept the original title as well.

To conduct efficient research within the invitations, it is recommended to start by consulting the "invitation log inventory" in the first volume in this sub-series. That inventory lists all the invitations received by the minister from numbers 1 to 7138. Then, when a researcher locates an invitation he or she wishes to consult, it is possible to find the folder containing the invitation by relying on the invitation number.
