Television documentary on Cuba introduced by former editor of the New York Times, Harrison E. Salisbury. Produced by three young television journalists, the film takes a comprehensive look at the Cuban way of life fifteen years after the revolution which put Fidel Castro in power. Footage documents various aspects of Cuban life including: state farms; health care programs; education; fishing industry; housing; and the rationing system. Local entertainment and Latin music are interwoven with scenes of everyday life. Noteworthy sequences include visits to: a Communist newspaper; the Havana Mental Hospital; a Roman Catholic Church. Following the documentary, Salisbury interviews one of the men responsible for its production, Director and Writer, Jon Alpert. Alpert relates experiences during the making of CUBA: THE PEOPLE and gives his personal impressions of the country and its people. <60mn>
