The film describes the workings of the Mond Laboratory in Birmingham, England where extensive tests are given to various metals for the Mond Nickel Company Limited, a subsidiary of the International Nickel Company of Canada, Limited. Footage shows the building itself, much of it constructed of nickel alloys; the casting of experimental ingots; and the performance of experiments on various machines. In the heat treatment laboratory we see the Vickers diamond hardness-testing machine, the Izod machine which registers resistance to sudden impact, the amsler tensile-testing machine, and machines for testing creep in metals. In the machine shop, we see the preparation of test specimens. In the metallographical laboratory, we see the Leitz diatometer which records the relationship of volume to temperature change, the spectograph which detects and measures small traces of metallic elements, the Bash and Harson which tests electrical resistance, and experiments having to do with the scaling of nickel alloys, electrolytic and immersion corrosion, and the performance of nickel alloys under working conditions. <16mn>
