This fonds includes 5 photographic prints from the series "Portraits in Time" (Kontiia'tarónnion). The portraits are from the Horn women: Kahentinéhtha' Horn, Dr. Ojistoh Horn, Dr. Kahén:te' Horn-Miller, Waneek Horn-Miller and Kaniehtí:io Horn.

In 2017, Christine was one of 15 visual artists selected for the epic Canada C3 Expedition on the occasion of Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. During her trip Christine met Kaniehtí:io Horn. Christine said that her friend Kaniehtí:io "opened her eyes to the truths about our past." Christine discussed creating her portrait, and eventually portraits of her mother and sisters, all from Kahnawake, a Kanien'keha (Mohawk) reserve south of Montréal.

Christine Fitzgerald created the series Kontiia'tarónnion (Portraits In Time) in collaboration with Kaniehtí:io Horn whose role was to provide support, inspiration, and bridge a connection to her family.

In her writings, Dr. Kahén:te' Horn-Miller refers to 'otiyaner,' the clan mother who sets the path, and the centrality of powerful and resilient women in their culture. The series of portraits of the Horn women represent this spirit: Waneek, an Olympic athlete; Kaniehtì:io, an actress; Kahente, an academic; Ojistoh, a physician; and Kahentinéhtha', their mother and an unrelenting activist and fighter for her people's rights. Her strong daughters are Kahentinéhtha's greatest legacy. The Horn family women are key actors and their lives and work are interwoven with many nationally important and monumental historical events in Canada such as the Oka Crisis or Mohawk Resistance, where the women stood strong to defend their people, home and land.

A later acquisition in 2023 consists of 1 photograph of Kaniehtí:io Horn in Kahnawá:ke, specifically on the site where her ancestor's family farm was expropriated by the government to build the St. Lawrence Seaway in the 1950s.

Fitzgerald, Christine, 1957- : Christine Fitzgerald is a photo-based artist who grew up in the Eastern Townships in Québec. A graduate of the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa, and Acadia and Dalhousie Universities, Christine has had a lifelong interest in the visual arts. In 2012, she left a successful career as an executive in the Government to pursue photography full-time. Her photo-based art career has quickly gained overwhelming success in Canada and internationally.

Christine now lives and works in Ottawa. Her work is inspired by her French-Canadian roots and her love of the natural world. She sees photography as a medium for creating unique physical objects. This growing conviction is the basis of her current artistic practice, as she explores the possibilities of using antiquated methods of image and photographic print making as a means of expression. Her images are produced intuitively, often using historical photographic equipment, integrating historical photographic printing processes with modern technology.

Christine completed an artist residency at the Ottawa School of Art and was an invited visiting artist in print media at York University. She was one of 15 visual artists selected for the historic Canada C3 Expedition on Canada's 150th anniversary. The work inspired by her Expedition experience was part of the Open Channels national exhibition in Âjagemô Hall at the Canada Council for the Arts in Ottawa.

She has been the recipient of grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts, and numerous awards including the 2023 Karsh Award, the 2016 International Fine Art Photographer of the Year from the Lucie Foundation and was one of the 2017 winners of the International Julia Margaret Cameron Award for women photographers. Her work is in public and private collections and has been featured by the CBC, The Washington Post and the National Geographic amongst others. In 2020, her artwork was at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. as part of the featured exhibition, New Light: Canadian Women Artists and as part of the Canadian Open Channels Exhibition at the 2020 International Frankfurt Book Fair, in Frankfurt, Germany. Her work, Requiem, was exhibited at the Karsh-Masson Gallery at the Ottawa City Hall in 2024.
