Accession consists of records from the Office of Science and Technology (OST) of the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce (ITC) and the predecessor Office of the Industrial Research Adviser (IRA) in the Department of Industry (DOI). OST was responsible for providing advice to management and other areas of DOI about research and development activities, and co-ordinating some departmental programs.

Subjects include, but are not limited to: industrial research in general, committees, international science and technology missions, the Program for the Advancement of Industrial Technology (PAIT), studies and projects, and DOI involvement in a domestic satellite communication system (TELESAT).

Records are filed according to a registry system used by DOI in the 1960s. When DOI was succeeded by ITC in April 1969, it continued using the DOI registry until around 1973.
