This documentary will show it through the eyes of some of its newcomers - children and adults who have come in Canada at an early age - a perspective native-born Canadians can only view second hand. The New Canadian Child discusses what happens when the child's second language abilities exceed his parents' and the child becomes the family interpreter: and when children want to integrate into the new culture around them, but parents insist on keeping the traditions of the homeland in the family milieu. This programme was prepared by Wilson Ruiz, who himself was only 12 when he came to North America from Ecuador 25 years ago. He's assisted occasionally by interviewer Michael Taylor, age 11.
