Inscribed beneath images: Head of large bowhead whale hoisted on deck. This whale was given its death blow by C.T. Petersen, from small motor boat. Insp. S.T. Wood of R.C.M.Police went in the boat to watch the killing. Compare size of whales head with C.T. Petersen standing beside it. Insp. Wood in the background. 30 years ago such a head brought over $10,000.00 for its baleen. ; Drying whalebone on deck. An average of about 2,000 lbs. of bone is taken from outh of a full grown whale. This bone, or baleen, was used in manufacture of silk, and also for corsets. The price was once as high as $7.00 per pound. ; Bowhead whale's tail measuring about 20 ft. across from tip to tip.
