Accession consists of records of the International Defence Programs Branch (IDPB) of the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce (ITC) and its predecessors in the Department of Trade and Commerce (DTC) and the Department of Defence Production (DDP). The branch was responsible for aiding the Canadian defence industry in its export development activities.

Subjects consist of briefings, committees, branch program planning, reports and returns, defence industry modernization (including the Defence Export Capital Assistance Committee), production sharing between Canada and the United States of America (USA), marketing projects, progress reports from overseas offices, research and development, and the Interdepartmental Committee on Defence Export Development.

Records are arranged according to a registry system in use by DDP in the 1960s. After IDPB was transferred to the Department of Trade and Commerce in July 1968 and then to the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce in April 1969, the successors continued to use the original registry until at least 1973.
