Le fonds comprend environ 150 lettres et documents écrits vers la fin de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. Il s'agit principalement de correspondance entre l'épouse de guerre néerlandaise Emilia Andriessen et son mari Dennis Alsop, un soldat canadien.
La correspondance débute peu après leur rencontre en 1944. Dennis est alors sergent au sein du Service canadien des renseignements aux Pays-Bas. Après leur mariage en novembre 1945, Dennis retourne à London, en Ontario, dans le cadre de la démobilisation des troupes canadiennes. Il rétour au Canada à la fin janvier 1946; Emilia n'arrive le pays qu'à la fin août.
Pendant leur séparation, Emilia écrit souvent à Dennis. Dans ses lettres, elle aborde des sujets personnels et romantiques. Elle discute également de la fin de la guerre et des répercussions sur leur vie quotidienne et celle de leurs parents et amis.
Les lettres qu'Emilia envoie à Dennis sont principalement en anglais, parsemées d'expressions néerlandaises et de surnoms affectueux. Elles discutent de nombreux sujets : la fin de la guerre et les célébrations du jour de la Victoire en Europe à Bois-le-Duc; les préoccupations d'Emilia pour sa famille qui se trouve aux Indes néerlandaises, celle-ci ayant fait l'objet d'un internement par les Japonais; sa future réunion avec sa famille; ses études en vue de devenir dentiste et ses insécurités relatives à ses examens; ses interactions avec le Bureau des épouses canadiennes alors qu'elle prépare son déménagement au Canada; ses inquiétudes liées à son immigration au Canada, y compris en ce qui concerne le logement du couple et leurs emplois futurs.
Le fonds comprend également quelques lettres de Dennis à l'intention d'Emilia, rédigées durant la même période. Il contient aussi de la correspondance et des documents en lien avec leur mariage tenu le 14 novembre 1945 ainsi que des télégrammes portant sur le voyage d'Emilia au Canada en août 1946. On y trouve en outre de la correspondance écrite par des amis et des membres de leur famille, dont les parents de Dennis, le beau-frère d'Emilia, Bill (un soldat canadien) et la propriétaire d'Emilia, Mlle Maandag.
Le fonds inclut également des photos et diverses notes provenant de la même période : plusieurs photos du mariage d'Emilia et de Dennis; des photos de la famille Andriessen dans les Indes néerlandaises avant la guerre; des lettres de Noël signées par "saint Nicolas"; une carte du mess des sergents de 1945; un certificat néerlandais autorisant Dennis Alsop à travailler sous supervision dans le district d'Hilversum, probablement dans le cadre de ses fonctions pendant la guerre.
