Pearson launches the Help a Child Campaign, the focus of the occasion, by lighting the Centennial Christmas Trees. Other celebrated guests include Senators John Connolly and Sydney Smith; Miss Grey Cup; and sportsman Russ Jackson. Santa Claus arrives to receive gifts and donations for needy children in Canada and around the world. The Young Canadian Singers, led by Bobby Gimby, sing Little People, and children throng Parliament Hill to watch the fireworks display and join in the singing and festivities.
